Thank you to Faith Prince for reaching out to me to read and review her novel Where Magic Begins!
Where Magic Begins has all the ingredients for a zesty YA romantasy: witches, vampires, evil uncles, sibling rivalry, and a gorgeous guy. Twin sisters, Saria and Zoeli Crowe have a fractured relationship. Saria is popular, Zoeli has a handful of friends; Saria has the hottest boyfriend in school, Zoeli just got dumped. They are half human, half witch, and full teenager.
But their broken bond is the least of their problems. Their extremist uncle Talon is plotting the extinction of “half-breeds” and the enslavement of humans and the Crowe twins must fight against those who wish them dead with only a fraction of the power of a full-blooded witch.
This story by indie author Faith Prince is fast-paced. At times the scenes felt rushed, and characters accepted every situation without question. The plot and characters would benefit from more development. I wanted to know more!
These critiques aside, the world Prince created is vivid, and I would love to know more about Aurelia and all its inhabitants. She paints an elaborate picture that is both original and beautiful. If I were thirteen I would be engrossed in every word of this story! The teenagers act realistically and the betrayals and emotional intelligence of the characters felt believable. This is a fun book and would be an appropriate choice for a younger reader who is interested in fantasy and wants to feel mature with a PG-13 love story.
